The Pines Catholic Camp held its first Pours and S'mores Fundraiser October 22, 2015 at Winfrey Point on White Rock Lake. The evening was filled with joy, laughter, and friendship. Everyone gathered shared some of the camp's traditional favorite jams, Rockin' Jesus Loves Me and Light the Fire were provided by alumnus and former camp director Cooper "Beaver" Ray. The Pines Alumni gathered on stage arm-in-arm to sing Isaiah 43, which is sung by summer staff to campers at every bonfire. The beautiful words of the psalm echoed throughout the room as the former staff members reminisced on their summers out at camp.
Bl. Chiara Luce Badano Youth Minister Award
John Matasso exemplifies the life of Bl. Chiara Luce Badano. He spreads the Joy of the Gospel with his community, the youth of Our Lady of the Lake in Rockwall, and his own family. While tirelessly serving The Pines in the 1990s, John discovered his passion for youth ministry. He has since been serving the Church for 20 years.
Fr. Hank Lanik
St. Philip Neri Clergy Award
Fr. Hank Lanik shares the characteristics of St. Philip Neri, the "Apostle of Joy." Thousands of people have sought his spiritual direction over his many years of ministry. Through his tireless service as the Chancellor of the Diocese of Tyler as well as his continued involvement with the Pines, Fr. Hank inspires the Church with a joy that is contagious.
St. Francis of Assisi Alumni Award
Laura Yokell has taken to heart the words Jesus spoke to St. Francis: "Rebuild my Church." She was a camper, counselor, and Senior Staff member at The Pines. In 2014, she became the Spiritual Coordinator for the inaugural summer at St. Therese's camp in Wasilla, Alaska. She now serves the Middle School Ministries at Good Shepherd in Colleyville.
