Throughout the days spent on camp, I can’t even begin to count the number of times I stop and just smile because I know only God could play a hand in the joys that come from all the excitement and growing in faith taking place constantly. As a missionary, these joys come from so many places. I could rattle of a ton of God-sightings ranging from happenings with the students on retreat, to experiences we have as a missionary staff, to the times we spend with the whole Egan clan.
However, there’s one moment in particular that sticks out as proof that God works in marvelous ways. Coming out of the solo hike trail, a student looks up with this face of peace, but full of wonder. Upon asking what they thought of the hike, the student responded with something along the lines of saying it was one of the most amazing things they had ever done. They then proceeded to share how they felt simply in touch with God and loved the idea of just walking with Him. After that, they expressed how they couldn't wait to come back for summer to immerse themselves in everything The Pines all over again!
Talking with this student and reflecting on what they had said made me even more thankful to be in the position I am. Every day, I get to see the hearts of young people be opened to God as they are able to experience Him in ways most of them have never done before. When students make realizations themselves about their relationship with Christ, it makes my heart so happy to know the joys they are experiencing and will be experiencing as they move forward with their lives. The Pines is a very special place filled with so much love, joy, and excitement. There is never a dull moment around camp…even when all the crazy, awesome summer staff and campers aren’t around. But most importantly, camp is never lacking the presence of God in everything we do!
